2021 : THE NEW IDEAL

“We shall all be very much happier when we learn to transform the things we have into a semblance of our ideal. How, then, may we go about accomplishing our ideal? …By letting go! By forgetting this vaguely pleasing dream, this evidence of our smug vanity, and making ourselves ready for a new ideal.”

- Elsie de Wolfe

We said goodbye to the wild and rocky year of 2020, a year of finding peace, deep introspection, a discovery that life is fleeting and our emotional state is sacred. This past year was a time we asked ourselves the hard-hitting questions, personally and professionally, all while continuing to experience grief in the rising cases and deaths of a global health pandemic and grappling with the instability of our lives through the beginnings of a new economic and financial crisis. Yet, here we are still finding ways to renew our energy to challenge the status quo and demand change in a racial and social revolution. What is our ideal place at heart? What is the new ideal for 2021?

2021 is a new year of hope, renewal, and transformation. I have realized in the experience of the slow and steady how my environment is a part of my healing. I found myself changing my own environment, and began to see how it played a role in my creativity and how I felt. Interior design impacts our daily lives and elevates our very being. It dramatically improves how we all live, work, play, and heal. Having to be in our homes during a pandemic really emphasizes that. And it might seem like a luxury but in my perspective, good design and a wonderful environment is something everyone should have. Filling one’s home with very sentimental things, ordinary everyday things, and even the modest things, can improve the other when you put them together.

I want to share a few beautiful things that helped me create my ideal environment and brought me solace in 2020. I hope today and every day you can find joy in the small things.

Xox,

JP
